Issue of Caste Based Census
The candidates having either Public Administration or Sociology as their option can appreciate the meaning of caste based census. M. N. Srinivas had pointed out in his studies that how the caste got a new lease of life in new democratic setup.
The question of major issues of Caste Based census can become a big debating point by February 2011 when the candidates taking May 2010 will preparing for interview. Similarly in October 2010, it may carry a question in GS and definitely in subjects pointed out above.
The hitched report has already taken some issues involved in caste based census. It is important to note that the constitution does not recognize caste as a criteria for any privilege or right as given under a democratic setup as practised in India. The decision to include a question during the head count of ongoing census is going to be an executive order which will have many political and social ramification. Therefore, it is a topic which should be watched and material be collected especially through such press reports and research based reports which are generally available under sociology subject.
