Delaram-Zaranj highway
India hands over Zaranj-Delaram highway to Afghanistan-India-The Times of India: "Delaram-Zaranj highway"
Zaranj is an ancient historic city which was known as Sarang in Sanskrit and later came to be known as Zarang and now Zaranj. Other historical names for Zaranj include Zirra,Zarangia or Drangiana.
The Delaram Zaranj Highway opens up a link between a deep sea port at Chahbahar in Iran to Afghanistan's main ring road highway system which connects Kabul, Kandhar, Herat, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kunduz.
The completion of the highway and handing over is a mile stone in foreign relation between Afghanistan and India on one hand and Iran and Afghanistan on the other. The project was completed by Boarders Road Oragnization (BRO) of Government of India.

PM flags off Kashmir's first train
The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh flagged off the beautifully decorated first train in Kashmir at the Nowgam railway station in Srinagar this morning ie. Saturday, October 11, 2008.
(TOI): The first Kashmir train connects Srinagar to Rajwanshar in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.
The track is 66 km (to be extended in future when the 117km rail link will connect Baramulla in the north with Qazigund in the south and, eventually, should be integrated into India's massive national rail network.) and the train has 8 coaches.

Kashmir was promised a rail link by Maharaja Pratap Singh, the region's Dogra ruler in 1892. The British assured to materialize that dream but nothing ever was done.
There were then different type of problems posed by nature herself and by man himself. Strife and terrorism came in the way and the challenge of boring through weak mountains and bridging huge crevasses stalled the project several times.

Eurotunnel/Channel Tunnel fire.

The Eurotunnel, the only land contact between United Kingdom and European Continent, was closed on September 11, 2008.
However, on September 13, 2008, it was reopened.
The news could have caused scare to due to the date on which it had occurred.
Secondly, it again bring into light a man made marvel where two landmass are joined by 39 km longest undersea tunnel. It joins Calais in France with Folkstone in United Kingdom.
"The Channel Tunnel has suffered several incidents since it opened to traffic in 1994 although only one - a fire in 1996 - caused casualties.
In August 2006, 34 people had to be led to safety after a fire broke out on a lorry being carried on a freight train."
