Police Administration on British pattern was laid by Lord Conrwallis. Warren Hastings abolished Dual system. He was known to have restructured Revenue Administrationn especially of Districts of Burswan, Midnapur, Calcutta and the twenty four parganas. He introduced collector system. Similarly he made changes in Judicial Administration. The police administration was laid on British pattern when rules were formed in 1791 during the period of Cornwallis.
1860 is also important for introduction of income tax in India.

Battle of Ambur: It was fought on August 3, 1749. Chanda Sahib killed Anwaruddin who was holding Karnataka at that time under Hyderabad. Chanda Sahib has the support of Muzaffar Jang and the French forces under Dupleix. This battle was part of the Second Karnataka War.
Battle of Plassey: It was fought on June 23, 1757. The English forces under Rober Clive defeated Siraj-ud-dullah, Nawab of Bengal in this war and placed Mir Jafar as the Nawab. This battle is related to British occupation of Bengal.
Battle of Wandiwash: It was fought on January 22, 1760. It was fought between the forces of British and French trading companies. It was the part of the Third Karnataka War. It was an historic event because it sealed the fate of the French in India.
Battle of Buxar: It was fought on October 23, 1764. It was fought between the British forces and Shujaudduala, the Wazir of Mughal Empire and Nawab of Awadh. It was part of British occupation of Bengal. It virtually settled the fate of whole of North India in favour of British trading company.
Special Note: The aspirants who have taken history as one of the subject must note it with full attention that the Karantaka War, Anglo-Mysore Wars, Anglo-Maratha War, Bengal Occupation and relation with Awadh are such topics which have appeared without break in the compulsory question of Paper B of History, Section A. The historic importance of these events is such that they are bound to give you questions in Mains. It seems that the source of material with the commission has good material on these topics. The students and as per general trend, the stress is mostly from 1857 onwards. However, the period between 1719 to 1818 or utpo 1857 has always given questions in the Mains and General Study papers.
Similarly, these portions have always give question in General studies. In this paper, there is one question on 1857 but more than three questions on the period identified above. This portion of history has also given questions in General Studies Mains Paper A, though the questions from the period 1885 to 1847 always come as it is already specified in the syllabus of General Studies Paper A of Mains. The relevant line of General Studies Paper A Mains syllabus is as follows: "The History of Modern India will cover history of the Country from about the middle of nineteenth century and would also include questions on important personalities who shaped the Freedom Movement and Social reforms."
