Kgalema Motlanthe is the new President of South Africa. He replaces Thabo Mbeki. The appointment was declared on Thursday, September 25, 2008.
Kgalema Motlanthe is from African National Congress party. The President of ANC party is Jacob Zuma. He is not the member of the Parliament of South Africa.
Thabo Mbeki had replaced Nelson Mandela.
Kgalema Motlanthe is also Anti-apartheid activist. Nelson Mandela has praised him as "quiet, firm and principled" leader who can unite the country.
