Taro Aso becomes the new Prime Minister of Japan. His appointment was ensured on September 22, 2008. He replaced Yasuo Fukuda.
Taro Aso is now leader of Liberal Democratic Party in the lower house of Japanese Parliament. He is expected to call a snap poll in October 2008.
Yasuo Fukuda resigned because of the economic problems which bedevils the country and political conflict with the opposition political party.
