Indian Personalities in News in March 2005

Ubhayakar Shivaram Krishna Rao: The renowned Bharatanatyam Exponent, choreographer and teacher died on March 6, 2005, in Bangalore at the age of 92. He is survived by two sons. U S Krishna Rao was a dancer, choreographer, renowned teacher and author of books on dance in English and Kannada.

M. K. Narayanan: He is presently national security adviser. Mr Narayanan, who would hold the rank of Minister of State, has been appointed for a period of three years. He was earlier Intelligence Bureau Chief till May 2004. Narayanan, a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was IB chief from 1989-90 after which he was made the chairman of the Joint Intelligence Command. He was brought back to head the IB in 1991 and retired the next year.
Mr Narayanan has succeeded J N Dixit who passed away early January this year. He will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Dai Bingguo on the boundary issue. He has been appointed Special Representative for talks with China on the boundary issue.
