Wikipedia reporting is quite fast. The given link is about Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino. The result was there by 10.57 pm IST (+5.30 GMT).

I am also watching Copenhagen UN Summit. The updates are coming regularly.

However, in case of BIMSTEC, the taking of Myanmar as the next chairman, was not updated even after 24 hours.

On the whole, the reporting is quite fast and must be giving the regular media run for their money.

I have found that even the bloggers are quite fast in reporting the new events. They are there with news just missing couple of seconds as compared to regular media. Wikipedia remains third but it is there within in couple of minutes.

Obama gets Nobel Peace Prize 2009

The Norwegian Nobel Committee for The Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 has bestowed the Nobel Peace Prize 2009 upon Barrack Obama the President of United States of America.

It writes, "The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons."

Before Aarvind Adiga, four Booker Prize winners had been writers of India origin. They were

V S Naipaul

Salman Rushdie

Arundhati Roy

Kiran Desai

Now after Aarvind Adiga, the score is five Bookers to India Originated writers.

However, After Arundhati Roy, he is the second writer to get Bookers on his début novel.

Secondly, along with him another Indian, Amitav Ghosh with his Sea of Poppies was also nominated.


Thirdly, the people who were finally shortlisted were Steve Toltz, Philip Hensher, Sebastian Barry, Amitav Ghosh, Linda Grant and Aarving Adiga.

J Radhakrishnan, SS Bhatnagar Prize 2008 for Mathematical Sciences

J. Radhakrishnan is an Associate Professor and Dean, School of Technology and Computer Science in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai.

He did his B. Tech from IIT Kharagpur in Computer Science and Electronics. He obtained his doctorate from Rutgers University in 1991.

Prof Ranjan K. Mallik, SS Bhatnagar Prize 2008 for Engineering Sciences

Ranjan K. Mallik is a professor in Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi.

He has done Ph. D. from the University of Southern California. He did his B. Tech. in Electrical Engineering in 1987 from IIT, Kanpur. He completed his M. S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California.

Professor T. Pardeep, SS Bhatnagar Prize 2008 for Chemical Sciences

T. Pardeep is Professor, Department of Chemistry and Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Chennai. He heads Department of Science and Technology (DST) unit on Nanoscience in IIT Madras.

His discoveries in the field of Nanoscience have helped in developing filter for pesticide removal.

He is M. Sc from Calicut University. He did his doctorate from IISc. Banglore. He was post doctoral fellow with Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Berkeley and Purude University, Indiana. He is interested in making teaching aids and writing in Malayalam.

He has been awarded Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award (Chemical Sciences), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, 2008.

The prize consists of Rs. 5 lakhs, a citation and a plaque. It is otherwise a big honour in the field of science within India.

The Sparrow Man of Nasik: Time Hero of Environment

The Tribune, Chandigarh, India - Punjab

Mohammad Dilawer, the sparrow man of Nasik has been declared as the Hero of Environment by the Time Magazine.

It is pertinent to know that the Time Magazine has declared 30 people as the Heroes of Environment. Out of that list, two of them are from India. The other person to be declared as the Hero of Environment is Sant Balbir Singh of Seechewal of Punjab.
