Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS)



In game of cricket, if replays indicate the distance for the ball to travel to be in excess of 2.5 metres from the point of impact, a batsman can still be given out if Hawk-eye shows the ball will strike any part of the middle stump at a comfortable height.

The rule has been adopted by ICC: International Cricket Council

It has become an issue of debate during the World Cricket Cup 2011.

Zee News - Wen-Chong wins Indian Open

Liang Wen-Chong has won the Hero Honda India Open Golf Tournament.

The Indian hopeful, Jeev Milkha Singh remained fourth in the tournament.

The defending Champions was Jyoti Randhawa who ended 57th.

Three Golds in Boxing in Asian Women's Boxing Championship

Indian boxers clinch three gold, two silver - Boxing - Other Sports - The Times of India Sports

Kalpana Choudhury clinched the first gold for the country defeating Ngo Thi Phuong of Vietnam by 10-2 in the 48 kg Light fly category


gold in the 50 kg Fly weight category with Sarita Devi defeating Ren Cancan of China

Nagisetty Usha won the third gold for the country when she defeated Imanbayeva Zhulduzay of Kazakhsthan by 17-1 in a one-sided match in the 57 kg feather weight category.


The Championship was held in Guwahati with main centre at Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor stadium.

The National Games 2008 will be held in Ranchi and Jamshedpur in Jharkhanda.

The year 2009 national games will be held in Kerela.

Suresh Kalmadi from Andhra Pardesh has been elected as the President of Indian Olympic Association for the second time. The IOA consists of 33 federations and 27 state representatives.

Commonwealth Youth Games Held in Pune

The Commonwealth Youth Games were inaugurated in Pune.

The games were inaugurated at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Balewadi on October 12, 2008 on Sunday.

71 countries had participated in the game. 1300 players had participated in it.

Ranji Trophy

Ranji Trophy is the first class domestic cricket played in India. It has same importance for the Indian cricket as the County Championship in England and Sheffield Shield in Australia.

It was started in 1934 and the championship was named ‘The Cricket Championship of India’. The first matches (fixtures) were played during 1934-35. It was later named after Jam Sahib of Nawannagar who was called Ranji. The actual name of Jam Sahib was Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji. The Trophy was donated by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of Patiala.

Irani Trophy

Irani Trophy is played for between the winners of the Ranji Trophy and Rest of India team.

It is named after Z. R. Irani, who was a treasurer of BCCI, and had remained associated with BCCI since the year of its inception in 1928 till his death in 1970.

Irani Trophy was started to mark the completion of 25 years of Ranji Trophy championship. It was first played in the season 1959-60. From thereon, it also marks the beginning of new domestic season in India.

Irani Trophy 2008: Winner Rest of India

Irani Trophy is played between the Ranji Trophy winner team and the Rest of India Team. This year Rest of India Team has won the Trophy after defeating the Delhi team, The Winner of Ranji Trophy.

The match was played at Vadodra. Anil Kumble had lead the Rest of India.

Kris Srikanth Cheeka is new Chairman Senior Selection Committee of BCCI

Kris Srikanth (Cheeka) has been appointed as the new Chairman, Senior Selection Committee of BCCI. He replaces Dilip Vensarkar. The tenure of Kris Srikanth is for four years. Now onwards, the post and also the posts of the members of the selection committee will be paid posts.

The other members of the Selection Committee are Yashpal Sharma, Narendra Hirwani, Surendera Bhave and Raja Venktaraman.

Srikanth represents South Zone and heads the committee as the Chairman. Yashpal Sharma represents the North Zone. He was member of the Senior Selection Committee earlier also. Surendra Bhave represent the West Zone. Narendra Hirwani represents the Central Zone. Raja Venktaraman represents the East Zone.

Srikanth, Yashpal Sharma and Narendra Hirwani had remained the members of the playing national team.

Dilip Vensarkar after leaving the post of the Chairman, Senior Selection Committee of BCCI, is presently Vice President of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Saina Nehwal, Winner of Chinese Taipei Badminton nearing Top 10 World Ranking of Shuttlers


Top 10 not beyond Saina, feel experts - Badminton - Other Sports - The Times of India Sports

Saina Nehwal is up to No. 12 in the world rankings. If she come into first ten in world ranking, which she can possible do, then she will be first Indian Women Badminton player to achieve that submit.

Saina won the title in Yonex Chinese Taipei Open badminton on Sunday, September 14, 2008.

In Beijing Olympics 2008, she had reached upto quarter-finals.

Saina Nehwal is a 19-year-old Hyderabad-based girl.

Yuvraj Singh: T-20 International Performance of the Year
