National Knowledge Commission has been constituted as per The Tribune report dated June 2, 2005.
PM Dr. Manmohan Singh consistuted the National Knowledge Commission (NKC)
Sam Pitroda is the Chairman of National Knowledge Commission.
Dr. P. M. Bhargava is the Vice-Chairman of the Commission. The commission will advise the Prime Minister on the matters relating to institutions of knowledge use and knowledge dissemination.
The aim of the commission or the mandate of the commission is to sharpen India’s "Knowledge Edge".
The commission will promote excellence in the education system to meet the knowledge challenges of the 21’s century.
The commission will promote knowledge creation in Science and Technology (S&T) laboratories.
The commission will improve the management of institutions generation Intellectual Property Right (IPR).
The commission will promote knowledge applications in agriculture and industry.
The commission will suggest ways in which the government’s knowledge capabilities can be made more effective.
The commission will explore ways in which knowledge can be made more widely accessible in the country.
The other members of the commission are:
Mr. Nandan Nilekani,
He is present MD of Infosys, a leading software (selling mostly to America) and outsourcing company.
Dr. Deepak Nayyar
Former Vice Chancellor of Delhi University.
Mr. Ashok Ganguly,
A noted Educationist
Dr. Andre Beteille,
A noted Sociologist
Dr. Jayati Ghosh
Dr. Pratap Bhanu Mehta
