The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill, 2008

The The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill, 2008 is present in the Rajya Sabha. It is a long standing demand. The compulsory elementary education is presently part of the Directive Principles. The demand for compulsory education was first proposed by Gopal Krishan Gokhle. Since then, it has remained the part of the pious motive of the country as a whole. Now, after the passage of the bill, this may become an ACT.

The TOI report below contains points on different dimensions of the Bill presented by the authors of the Bill itself.

This issue will remain an important issue of debate. It should be part of the notes for 2009 examinations.
