The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science & Technology was instituted in 1957 in the name of the founder Director General and the principal architect of CSIR. The Prize has
now become the most coveted national recognition for scientists and engineers. The Bhatnagar Laureates (winners of the prize) exemplify the best of talents in Science & Technology in India.
The prize consists of cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs, a citation and a plaque.
The prize is given by CSIR for notable and outstanding research, applied or fundamental, in Biological, Chemical, Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary, Engineering, Mathematical, Medical and Physical Sciences.
