Tzipi Livni of Kadima Party, PM of Israel

Tzipi Livni (50) has taken over as the Prime Minister of Israel. She occupied the post on Monday, September 22, 2008. She has taken over the charge from Ehud Olmert. Ehud Olmert was facing a corruption scandal. She belongs to Kadima Party. The election in Israel is due only in 2010.

The opposition party is Likud party. The Likud party is headed by Benjamin Netanyahu.


Third important party is Shas party, which an ultra-orthodox party. It is presently supporting Kadima party.

In case, Livni is not able to form her government, then the next elections may take place in March 2009. However, regular elections are due in 2010. Hence, presently, her post is that of Acting Prime Minister.
